Today some of my family and I had a luncheon to see my Aunt off overseas for her 40th birthday. We decided on a simple pub lunch at the Red Lion, nothing fancy and not too expensive either. The bistro was empty when we walked in, we seated ourselves quickly and ordered at the bar. We each ordered differently.. and each meal was only $10.99 + all you can eat salad bar.. a bargain in my books.
The salad bar was awesome – different kinds of pre-made salads; cold noodle salad, antipasto pasta salad, creamy potato salad, couscous with beans and sun-dried tomato, pumpkin parmasen and baby spinach salad, oh and a hot box with the best roast potatoes I’ve seen in a while :D
Soon after ordering, our meals arrived. Bart ordered the osso bucco with polenta and I ordered the dukkah crusted chicken breast with pomegranate and walnut gravy. The gravy may not have been as pretty as a picture but it sure was delicious.
My grandma inevitably ordered lamb shanks, and my aunt and her partner ordered steak and the chefs special - James Squire pale ale sausages on a bed of mash and wilted spinach. All the dishes looked wonderful.
All in all, a beautiful day, decent food at a good price.
