During the Easter break I was lucky enough to visit the Rumbalara winery. Hidden in the Granite Belt, near Stanthorpe, Rumbalara has a fantastic range of wines that you must try.

Barts’ family and I were greeted at the door, and seated outside for a wine tasting. Chris, our host at Rumbalara allowed us to taste their signature “Big 5″ range of wines and their famous Impi Cream. Chris was fantastic, he was very informative, personable and most cheerful. The thing that struck me most was how passionate he was about these wines. And I could see why.
Rumbalara’s Big 5 :
Whites ~
The Buffalo – Unwooded chardonnay: a dry white wine with lifted tropical fruit palate
The Elephant – Sauvignon blanc semillion: an off dry wine with subtle citrus
The Rhino – Granitegolde: sweet wine produced from Waltham Cross and chardonnay grapes
Reds ~
The Leopard – Shiraz cabernet sauvignon: semi sweet blend, lifted raspberry, plum and spice palate
The Lion – Shiraz, cabernet sauvignon merlo: dry soft wine

Originally, we were there for one reason, to purchase another bottle of their Impi Cream for my MIL. Then the wine tasting happened.. and our group ended up walking out with two boxes of their various wines. And a couple Impi Cream Thickshakes… Good Haul!!

I really urge you, if you are in Stanthorpe or driving through the Granite Belt region to stop at this winery, have a taste and walk away with some really good quality wines. Support the Australian Wine Industry!!! ![]()
Per bottle ranges from $13(big 5) – $25(fortified wines, port and Impi Cream) – you can also buy online at
